Microsoft Paint is a simple editing tool that comes free on all windows computers. It’s used to perform many basic editing tasks that don’t need the intervention of more advanced editing tools. One of its many editing functions is the “Add Text Tool,”; it is effortless to use and works to create watermarks on pictures.

In this article, we will show you how to add text to an image in Microsoft Paint. Understanding that there’s an upgraded version of the software (Paint 3D), we will also show you how to use the text tool on it too.

First, let’s get to how it’s done using the regular (older) version of the Paint editing software.

How to Add Text in Paint

Adding a textbox in Paint is very simple. Just follow these few steps:

  1. Open an image with the program and locate the “A” symbol in the “Tools” button on the “Home” tab.
  2. Click and hold “A,” then drag the mouse pointer to your preferred position in the image to place the text box.
  3. You can resize to your preference by clicking and dragging the small squares on the edges of the box. You can also move the box without resizing by dragging the dotted line of the outline.
  4. Insert the text by clicking the middle of the textbox and typing what you want.
  5. Finally, click anywhere in the image to save the text in the picture.

Make sure everything is to your preference. Paint is a simple editing tool; it doesn’t support layer editing. This means you can’t alter text when it’s saved, and you’ll have to start all over again.

Regarding changing text color and size, the tab automatically opens when you place your textbox — you shouldn’t have much problem with that.

Now let’s move over to how to do the same on Paint 3D, the updated version of the software.

How to Add Text in Paint 3D

It’s more or less the same procedure; however, there’s just a slight difference, which we’ve also addressed in this article. You can’t just click and drag the text button; it will disappear when you start to type in your texts.

So let’s know how to do it the right way:

  1. Launch Paint 3D, and open the picture you wish to edit
  2. Click on the “Text” button on the top bar and wait for two options to pop up.
  3. Select from the options you wish your text to look (2D or 3D)
  4. Finally, move the mouse to the preferred area in the picture to lay your textbox.

Everything is pretty much the same as working with the older version of the app from here onwards.
